SEE-GRID-SCI

Definition :

The European e-infrastructures have already matured. The GÉANT network has shaped a backbone over which the distributed infrastructure of computing grid provides processing and storage services for research purposes in numerous scientific fields (eScience).

The initiatives for the development of the e-infrastructures of the South-Eastern Europe have committed that will ensure equal participation of the countries holding infrastructures in the European trends. SEEREN and SEEREN2 projects have installed a regional network which is connected to the GÉANT network, while the SEE-GRID and SEE-GRID-2 have installed a regional computing grid. The SEE-GRID-SCI project (SEE-GRIDeInfrastructureforregionaleScience) will reinforce the power of the infrastructures of the South-Eastern Europe, allowing new scientific co-operations between communities of users.

Duration :

Beginning: 01/05/2008, End: 30/4/2010, Duration: 24 months

Objectives :

Main goal of the SEE-GRID-SCI project is the involvement of three national strategic scientific communities/virtual organizations (seismology, meteorology, protection of the environment) and instigating this way the use and expansion of the regional grid infrastructures and the under development services offered. As a result, the existing human network is capitalized for the further reinforcement of the scientific co-operation between the communities of South – Eastern Europe in the field of e-infrastructures. The involvement of new scientific communities and the expansion of the infrastructure either from size point of view or geographically, along with a whole of coordinated actions aiming at the reinforcement of the national grid infrastructures of the region, will ensure that in the end of the project every country of the region will be ready to participate in the long-term, viable European Initiatives as an equivalent member.
